History Of Bergamot Essential oil:

The name Bergamot is derived from the Italian city of Bergamo where the oil was first sold. Bergamot is commercially grown in mild areas of north America, southern Calabria in southern Italy, southern france and in Antalya in southern turkey for its marmalade. Bergamot is a peer shaped fruits that grown or a tree comes from the same family as the orange in rutaceae family. The citrus bergamia tree stand about 12 meters tall and is covered in long green leaves and white flowers when its blossoms. Bergamot essential oil takes place in southern Italy where it is expeller pressed from the peel of citrus fruit after the pulp has been removed. Until the mid 19th century the process by done by hand and quite intensive as its takes 200kg fruit to produce 1 litre of essential oil. While the fruit itself not edible the dried peel and essential oil give earl grey tea its unique flavour and are also used as an ingredients in Turkish delight.

The chemical composition of bergamot essential oil has been widely investigated through GC/MS Analysis technique . Bergamot essential oil contains several bioactive molecules with potential health benefits . it is composed of both a volatile (93-96%) of total and non-volatile (4-7%) of total fraction. The constituents of bergamot essential oil are beta-limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool, sabinene, gama-terpinene, beta-pinene, beta-myrcene, neryl acetate. Non volatile compounds are bergamottin, 5 geranyloxy-7-methoxycoumarin, citropten, bergapten, bergaptol, 5 methoxy-7- geranoxycoumarin, psoralen.

Uses of Bergamot Essential oil;

Anti-Depressant &stimulant: The components of bergamot oil like alpha-pinene and limonene, Are anti depressant  and stimulating in nature. They create a felling of freshness joy and energy cases of sadness and depression by improving the circulation of blood.
