Description Of Lemon Essential Oil:

The Lemon was introduced in spain and north Africa sometime between the years 1000 and 1200 C.E. It was further distributed through Europe by the crusaders who found its growing in Palestine. In 1494 the fruit was being cultivated in the azores and shipped largely to England.

The lemon plant forms an evergreen spreading bush or small trees 3-6 meters. (10-20)ft high its young oval leaves have a decidedly reddish tiny that they turn green. In some varieties the young branches of lemon angular some have sharp thorns at the axils of the leaves. The flowers have a sweet odour and solitary or bone in small clusters in the axils of the leaves. Reddish tinted in the bud the petals are usually white above and redish purple yellow. The fruit is oval with a broad low apical nipple forms 8 to 10 segments the outer rind or peel yellow when ripe and rather thick in some varieties is prominently dotted with oils glands. The seed are small avoid and pointed occasionally fruits are seedless. Citrus oil is an essential oil present within the rind of wall of a citrus fruit. Lemon essential oil is extracted as a by product of juice extraction by centrifugation producing cold pressed oil. The present investigation citrus limon peel is used for extraction of lemon oil. The main contents of lemon essential oils are limonene, alpha-pinene, camphene, beta-pinene, sabinene, mycrene, alpha terepene, linalool, beta bisabolene trans-alpha-bergemotene, nerol and neral.

After the extraction Lemon Essential oil has a thin watery a pale greenish yellow colour and gives a sharp yet Fragrance which can be largely attributed to the chemical constituent liomonene.
